This section answers the questions we are frequently asked. Please use the Contact Us page if you have any further enquiries.

Q: What makes Elephant Drums better than other drum tuition?

A: We offer professional lessons for a competitive price taught by a fun and friendly tutor. The teaching studios are located in a very accessible central location and are well-served by trains, underground and buses.

Q: Can I have lessons at home on my own drum kit?

A: Yes – in many ways it can be better to learn at home in your own environment with your drum kit set up the way you like it. Our friendly relaxed studios are just as good if you don’t own a drum kit yet.

Q: Where are your teaching studios if I travel to you?

A: Our studios are located in Elephant & Castle in London. An interactive map of our Elephant & Castle studio is available on the Location page of this website.   We have also developed an extended network of other drum teachers based outside of central London.  We can also put you in contact with a teacher in Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Herts or Essex as well as other areas of the UK.

Q: How long does a lesson last for?

A: A one-hour lesson is recommended so that you get the most out of your time without getting too tired or overloaded with information. Half-hour lessons can be arranged for younger students where an hour may seem too long.

Q: When are lessons available?

A: You can choose lesson times to suit you. Our studio-based tuition is available on weekdays and at weekends from 10am to 8pm.  Home tuition provides the most flexibility because lessons are available at all times of day. Both options are highly flexible regarding timings.

Q: Do you teach one-to-one or in groups?

A: We normally teach one-to-one (one teacher to one student). It is possible to learn in a small group of 2 or 3 people.  We run drumming workshops using hand drums for larger groups – see the information on our Stress-Beaters page if searching for group drumming lessons.

Q: Can I get a discount if I pay for a batch of lessons in advance?

A: Yes – you can instantly get money off the cost of lessons if you block-book 5 or 10 lessons and pay in advance. Our tuition Gift Vouchers make a great present for a friend or relative thinking of learning the drums and they are also a money-saver.

Q: Do you accept credit cards and cheques?

A: Yes – you can pay however you prefer; whether it’s by cash, cheque, bank transfer, via the internet, Google Checkout, PayPal, credit card or debit card.

Q: What happens if I have to cancel my lesson?

A: No problem! Just give us at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel your lesson or rearrange it for another time. If you have paid for your lessons in advance your lesson will simply roll over to the following week. If you can’t give more than 48 hours notice we may have to charge up to 50% of the lesson cost to cover lost studio time. If you forget about your lesson and don’t turn up (or if the teacher arrives at your house and you’re not there) you will be liable for paying for the whole lesson. Please refer to the Terms of Booking for the full terms & conditions.

Q: Can elephants actually play the drums?

A: Funny you should ask that… The jury is still out on this one. Let us know if you have any strong views on this.
