Cajon (Box Drum) Workshop

Saturday 21 July, 12pm

Join us at Green Note in Camden as we continue our journey celebrating the “Drums of the World” led by Canadian drummer & percussionist Adam Teixeira. Each session explores a different region of the world of rhythm. This time we get our hands on the cajon (box drum).

About the workshops

These inspiring workshops explore global rhythms traditionally played using hand percussion, and demonstrates methods you can use to creatively apply these rhythms to the drum kit to generate ideas for grooves and fills.

Suitable for all levels

Whether you are new to drumming or if you’re an experienced player, there is something for all levels. These workshops are designed to be accessible and interactive. Nobody will be ‘picked out’ to perform in front of the group, or asked to do anything which is outside of his/her comfort zone. There will be fun opportunities to participate as a group and to have hands-on experience with the instruments.

Refreshments included

Our events are social as well as educational. As part of your ticket you’ll get your choice of drink from the wonderful Green Note cafe. Please join us at 12pm for refreshments before we begin the workshop.

Adam Teixeira

Adam Teixeira

Adam is a drummer/percussionist from Toronto, Canada. His extensive experience in jazz and world music have led to many opportunities to travel around the globe to perform and study music from different traditional cultures. Adam continues to develop these rhythmic vocabularies in his unique approach to the drum kit and performance.

This is a new workshop with new content. You don’t need to have been to a previous workshop in this series, each workshop is a standalone session suitable for all levels.

This session focuses on the rhythms of the cajon.

About the Cajon

The cajon (box drum) is originally from Peru and traditionally played in Afro-Peruvian folk music. It is usually played with the hands, but other implements such as brushes may also be used to create different textures. The cajon is a versatile drum found in many contemporary musical settings, including jazz, folk, flamenco and latin genres.
