Drum lessons with a professional drum tutor don't cost as much as you might think.

Drum KitDrums are normally taught one-to-one (1 teacher and 1 student) due to the nature of the instrument.

It's difficult to learn in a room full of acoustic drum kits or to have more than one person sharing a kit during lessons.

For this reason, drum kit tuition can seem more expensive compared to other instruments that can be taught to groups, or activities that usually require a group of people (dancing, for example).

However, when drum lessons are compared to other 1-to-1 creative/lifestyle subjects such as bespoke photography tutoring, personal fitness training, or individual vocal coaching, the results are very interesting. 1-to-1 drum lessons are, on average, cheaper than these other activities.

We thought we'd share these interesting results with you.

Drum lessons price comparison:

Based on a sample of 30 professional private tutoring organisations in London. See notes below for the criteria used to make this comparison.

Average £ per hour (1-to-1 tuition, London, Sept 2016)

Criteria for inclusion in the comparison.

To make the comparison as accurate as possible only companies that met the following criteria were included:

  • Professional services based in London who charge an hourly rate for tutoring.
  • Excluded agencies, resellers or comparison sites (because these probably add commission on top of the hourly rates).
  • Search results generated using popular search engines including Google, Yahoo and Bing.
  • The published hourly rate is publicly visible on the organisation's website.
