What makes Elephant Drums better than other drum tuition?

Elephant Drums offers professional drum lessons for a competitive price taught by a team of fun and friendly tutors. Find out about who we are and what we do on the About Us page of the website.

How do I book a drum lesson?

Click on any of the Book A Lesson links, fill in your preferences and details, then you will be directed to pay for your chosen lesson using the secure checkout. You can also click on any of the individual buttons found on the course description pages to begin the booking process.

What times are drum lessons available?

You can choose lesson times to suit you. Studio-based tuition is available on weekdays from 10am to 9.30pm and at weekends from 10am to 5.30pm. Please refer to the Availability page for specific information. Home tuition provides the most flexibility because lessons are available at all times of day.

Can I have lessons at home on my own drum kit?

Yes – it is possible to learn drums in your own home using an acoustic or electronic drum kit. Please see the Home Tuition page for more details. Depending where you live there might be an additional charge for the tutor’s travel expenses but this will be discussed in advance. Our fully-equipped studios are just as good if you don’t own a drum kit.

Where are the drum studios?

View the locations of the central London studios on the Location page of this website. We have also developed an extended network of other drum teachers based at ‘satellite’ studios outside of central London. Please get in touch if you live in outer London or the surrounding counties and we will be able to recommend an alternative, if coming to one of the main studios is not convenient for you.

Is there a minimum/maximum age limit for drum lessons?

You are never too old or too young to start learning drums! There is no upper age limit (we have taught students in their 80s). For younger students, age 13 is usually about the youngest we can teach at the drum studios. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Children younger than 13 years old can have tuition at their home with a visiting tutor travelling to your house (see Home Tuition).

How long does a lesson last for?

The lesson schedules run on 1-hour time slots, but longer or shorter session slots may be arranged on request if the schedules allow.

Standard lessons include 45 minutes of tuition plus 15 minutes for the other elements of the session such as warm-ups, practice, and setting of activities to complete for the next lesson.

In some cases, if it suits the preferences of the learner, the additional 15 minutes may be moved so that the session slot is 45 minutes. In future, lessons during peak times may need to be 45 minutes in duration, but this is currently a proposal we are consulting on and learners will be informed in advance with plenty of notice before this change comes into affect.

Does Elephant Drums do 1-to-1 lessons and group workshops?

We normally teach one-to-one (one teacher to one student) so that the lessons are personalised to each individual student. We run drumming workshops and community/corporate events for larger groups using hand percussion. Please see the information on the Bespoke Tuition page if you are looking for information about hiring us to provide drumming lessons for a group of people.

Can I have drum lessons with a friend or partner?

We can cater for 2 people wishing to learn drums together at the same time. A drum lesson for two people is called a one-to-two lesson (one tutor, two learners). The additional cost is +50% for the second person. Read more about one-to-two lessons.

What discount is available for booking a block of lessons in advance?

It is possible to save up to 20% on lesson fees by block-booking a course of lessons. However, the biggest discount off the standard hourly rate for lessons is reserved for subscribers to the Drum Pass monthly membership plan. Members receive a huge 40% discount and lots of other benefits and it is not necessary for members to block-book lessons (lessons are Pay-As-You-Go).

Is it possible to book drum lessons as a gift for someone else?

Yes – we offer awesome drum tuition gift packs. All packs come with a free pair of drum sticks and include a subscription to the Drum Pass for free access to all the member benefits. Drum lesson gift vouchers are valid for a whole year, so the recipient of the voucher can choose the time for their first drum lesson when it suits him/her.

Do you accept credit and debit cards?

Yes – book online to use a credit or debit card. We do not take card payments over the phone or in person at the studio. You can pay by bank transfer, Direct Debit (for subscriptions) or via PayPal if you do not have a debit or credit card. Please ask for details if you would like to set up using an alternative payment method.

What happens if I have to cancel my lesson?

No problem! Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel your lesson or rearrange it for another time. If you have paid for your lessons in advance your lesson will simply roll over to the following week. If you can’t give more than 48 hours notice we may have to charge 50% of the lesson cost to cover the lost studio time. If you forget about your lesson and don’t turn up at the agreed time (or if the teacher arrives at your house and you’re not there) or if you cancel less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time, you will need to pay for the whole lesson. Please refer to the Terms of Booking for the full terms & conditions.

Can elephants actually play the drums?

Funny you should ask that… The jury is still out on this one. Let us know if you have any strong views on this.
