Online 1-to-1 video drum lessons

Online drum lesson

Thinking about learning drums online?

We've received a load of questions recently about 1-to-1 video drum lessons.

Here's an Elephant Drums guide to taking drum lessons remotely via live video.

Introduction

For a long time it seemed there was no real substitute for physically being in the studio with a drum tutor.

In the past, some common problems with online lessons included the internet connection being too unreliable, the sound and video quality was not good enough, and it wasn't possible to explore certain methods and techniques which require attention to detail.

But now things have moved on.

Camera technology has improved and got more affordable. The internet providers and services are much more geared up for streaming video. It is now possible to successfully learn the drums without being in the same room as your drum tutor.

How do remote video drum lessons work?

The evolution of online drum lessons

Here at Elephant Drums we have always specialised in drum tuition where the lessons are individually tailored to each learner's specific needs and requirements.

Over the years we've had students move away from London due to work or life circumstances, who wanted to keep having drum lessons with their drum tutor - remotely via the internet - from all over the world.

So that is how the idea of online live video drum lessons evolved for us.

At first it was just something we did for people who had already been having drum lessons at the London studios... But early in 2020 everything suddenly changed due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The new way of life created by the pandemic accelerated the interest in the online drum lessons.

We have been expanding the ability to provide remote lessons so that anyone can access drum tuition with a one-to-one tutor from anywhere in the country (or, indeed, anywhere in the world).

The pros and cons of taking drum lessons over the internet

As with all things online vs in-person, there are some pros and cons to taking remote drum lessons over the internet.

During periods of time where it is not possible to meet face-to-face, such as the Coronavirus pandemic, remote lessons are certainly a very viable alternative to drumming in-person.

Video drum lessons are also a great option if you are not based near to your drum tutor and prefer to have lessons online.

Conclusion

Whilst there are some factors which make online drum lessons slightly less desirable than being physically in the same room as your drum tutor, it is certainly a very viable option.

As the technology continues to improve, and when reliable and fast internet connections become the norm, the technological limitations will disappear.

It then really comes down to whether you prefer to learn in-person, or if you prefer the style of distance learning that remote lessons provide.
