Find drum studios, rehearsal rooms, and music spaces offering drummers a place to practice drums.
Equipment Categories A-E
We've asked each studio to specify what equipment is included in their drum studio rental price, and what is excluded. This is so you know whether the fee includes hiring breakables, or if those need to be hired separately.
A) Full kit (including breakables) available at no extra cost.
B) Basic kit available at no extra cost (drummer must bring own breakables).
C) Basic kit included in the price and breakables are available for hire at additional cost.
D) There is no drum kit at the studio (drummer must bring everything).
E) Drum kit and breakables available for hire at additional cost.
Definitions
"Breakables" - at drum practice studios this normally means cymbals. In some cases it can mean cymbals, snare drum and kick drum pedal.
"PA" - a PA System can be used to play music through speakers. Most practice rooms have a PA system with a cable for connecting your phone / device to play your music.
"Peak / Off-Peak" - Some studios charge a different rate for Peak times (usually after 6pm Mon-Fri and at weekends) than at Off-Peak times. See the listings for details.
Notes for drummers:
USING DRUM PRACTICE STUDIOS
Normally rehearsal studios are booked by bands (i.e. 4 or 5+ people) and it usually costs upwards of £50 per rehearsal. All rehearsal studios usually have a minimum booking duration for each session (e.g. 3 or 4 hours minimum) and they don’t normally publish an “hourly rate” as such. Split between 4 or more people having a 4 hour band practice it works out affordably, but for a single drummer it’s not.
SOLO DRUMMER RATES
Most of the studios that have agreed to participate in the solo drummer scheme have said that solo drummers can book by the hour, rather than the usual 3 or 4 hour minimum. If you are submitting a studio for inclusion on our website please make a note if there is a minimum duration condition attached to the solo drummer rate.
Prices can change in future, so you'll receive a link to amend the listing details. We'll include a note to all visitors that studios reserve the right to change their solo drummer rate in future.
If rehearsing with a full band, the normal full studio rehearsal prices will apply.
WHY IS IT SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN REHEARSALS WITH A BAND?
For a start, solo drummers would be looking at an hourly rate whereas most of prices quoted for band rehearsals are for 3+ hours minimum duration. But the main reason it’s cheaper is because as a solo musician you are likely to be a lot more flexible than 4 or 5 people could ever be – maybe you’ll fill in an hour or two of studio ‘downtime’ fitting in between the studio’s band bookings.
Most studios have a range of different sized rooms for which they normally charge a range of different prices (larger rooms for larger bands). However, as a solo drummer it doesn’t matter if they put you in the smallest room or the largest – so it means that sometimes you might end up in a studio’s most expensive band room but on the solo drummer rate. From the studio’s perspective it’s obviously better they have someone in and using the space rather than no one in at all.
